Description: This authentic Early Archaic projectile point base was surface-found on private farmland in Phillips County, Arkansas, along the southern terminus of Crowley’s Ridge. Identified as a Big Sandy type, this piece dates back approximately 7,000 to 9,000 years.
The artifact is expertly knapped from highly sought-after Crowley’s Ridge Chert, featuring a striking variegated color palette of honey-tan with distinct blue-gray “steely” inclusions. The base exhibits deep, well-defined side notches and a slightly concave, heavily ground base—traits indicative of a skilled ancient craftsman. While the tip is missing due to a prehistoric snap fracture, this piece remains an excellent study grade example of the lithic technology used by the early inhabitants of the Arkansas Delta.
