The lesson we learn from from the Letterman –vs- Palin thing is simple; David Letterman will be a media icon as long as he wants, even when Sarah Palin’s days of relevance are only a memory. I think Letterman is like 62 or so right now, I see him doing the show another 2 or 3 years and then gracefully retiring to spend time with his family. When he retires you probably won’t hear from him again, he is a very private person.
Sure, the joke he told was offensive, I am for sure not disputing this but rather pointing out something. The way that Letterman handled the situation was hilarious. And yes, this is one more example of how Palin was able to take a situation where she should have had the entire country rallied behind her and turn it around in a way that everyone is once again laughing at her, this is evidenced by the video below…
