2026 Special Olympics

April 25, 2026 by Cotton Rohrscheib

I have to brag on my kiddo today! Not only did he run hard in the 100 meter race, he came in second w/ his buddy Gatlin taking the Gold and Spencer got the silver. That 1-2 finish for the boys from Compass Academy was pretty awesome, but the excitement of the day came in the last event of the day…

I had prepared Spencer and Donna both earlier in the day that the softball throw might not be his strongest event (they do softballs instead of shotputs at his age group). Honestly, Spencer has always struggled a little bit at his throw because he’s back and forth between being left-handed and right-handed.

Well, low and behold… something got into him this morning and he won his class against boys that were bigger than him and stronger than he was. He focused on what he was doing and really threw the ball with good form. He beat the next competitor by 4 feet.

We will go onto regionals now, in the meantime we are going to really be practicing. I was so proud of him I found myself w/ tears in my eyes as he came off the field. I wish I could call my dad so bad, he would be so proud of him.

Spencer’s favorite memory verse is, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” – Phillipians 4:13.
