Twitter: Manage Status Across Networks

April 15, 2008 by Cotton Rohrscheib Leave a Comment

I think that I might have finally found a use for Twitter that I can live with.  As you might have noticed I have added a new piece to my Blog’s sidebar that features my Twitter Feed.  For those of you who don’t know what Twitter is, it’s basically a status tool that alerts people who are following your profile as to what it is you are doing at the various points during the day you check in and update it.  For those of you that are familiar w/ MySpace or Facebook, it’s the same idea as the “what I am doing” or “current status” feature.

Well, here’s where it get’s kind of cool, I have it setup now so that my status for Facebook is synced or controlled by my Twitter Status, so for instance, if I have people tracking me on Facebok and also on my Blog (preferably) they will all be up to date with my status.  For me this is great because I can update my status using my Treo no matter where I am at and it will automatically update my blog and Facebook pages.

I think you can also tie this feature into MySpace but since I am seldom in MySpace I got turned away pretty quickly when I found it wasn’t a simple click, click process to add this feature there as well.  I am not for sure if Twitter can override the MySpace status yet, if someone knows please let me know, I might look into going the extra steps of adding this feature if it does.

If you have a Twitter account, here’s a link to their Plugin page for more information: Twitter / Get a Badge for Your Site.  I don’t see where this has any real value for my clients for the most part with the exception of maybe a Real Estate Agent using it to update his website to let his prospective clients or co-workers know where he is at at all times, example: “Showing Home on Maple Street”, or “In a Closing until 4pm” , I will keep my thinking cap on for this one and if I come up with some cool ideas for this tool I will add it here…
