I was reminded this morning about how we should cautiously share our thoughts on social media because the resulting conversations can dominate your day. If something is gained from the conversation it’s a good thing I would say, not sure what was gained by my post this morning but it quickly picked up a lot of traction so maybe it had an impact –I don’t know, time will tell.
The post I am referring to was on the topic of same-sex marriage. I’m sharing it below:
Maybe it's time we stop worrying about what our nation does and worry about our own homes. I'm a conservative Christian….

At last count it had been shared by almost 30 people and was closing in on 100 comments. I guess you might say it’s a hot button issue. I wasn’t speaking for or against the legislation, instead I was encouraging all of us to look inward on the topic and ask ourselves what is to be gained by fighting the issue.
If you are opposed to same sex marriage and the SCOTUS decision because it doesn’t align with your faith, is there anything you can really do about it outside the walls of your home? As a conservative Christian I’ve prayed about this a lot and I keep getting deflected back by the Holy Spirit to worry about my own home, where I’m the spiritual head of my home. I can set the tone in my home and instruct my family on my interpretation of the bible. My interpretation and your interpretation might be entirely different, I think God appreciates our efforts and rewards us with clarity on things when it’s important. Bottom line, as a Christian you always want to stay in tune with the Holy Spirit.
I believe as Christians we are losing in one kingdom area that’s huge (and it’s not with the definition of marriage), it’s in showing love to everyone just as Christ loved the church. I know I’m guilty and require grace on a daily basis. Here’s the thing though, when we counter something we think is sin (and judge someone) and then say things that are nasty and hateful, we’ve just counteracted sin with more sin. I’m not sure Jesus went to the cross for us to behave this way.
On another topic, I know there are a lot of valid arguments out there that more or less point toward the church being persecuted for our beliefs, trust me though, my beliefs are still the same and this decision (or any other decision) by SCOTUS will ever affect my beliefs. If I’m ever asked to deny my beliefs or feel threatened I’ll retaliate and act as stupid as I want, that’s always been my stance. At the end of the day this doesn’t affect me or my house in any way.
Lastly, I want to point out that as Christians we have enough on our plate to worry about (I know I do, it’s a daily battle), maybe if we focus on that and helping those that can’t help themselves (like Christ) we can have better days.
Am I sorry I got everyone all worked up? Not really, I actually enjoy having friends that don’t agree with me on things, it gives me a perspective I might not be exposed to otherwise and in some cases could change my opinion, it’s part of the education process.
