This past week I had my eyes opened to something that I haven’t given a lot of thought to in a long time, the funny part is who I can attribute my eye-opening experience to, Donald Trump. It’s no great secret that I’m not a huge fan of “The Donald”, in fact, he and I disagree on more than we probably agree on, but being that he’s been acting like such a child the past few months on Twitter I find it hard to unfollow him because I’m afraid of what I might miss him saying or doing.
Given the fact that I’ve got a lot of health-oriented goals moving into this new year I didn’t really set any new years resolutions for myself, but I guess you might say that I’m making one now. This past week I noticed that Donald Trump would tweet something negative about one of his arch enemies, whether it be President Obama or Bill Maher, and then a few minutes earlier he would follow that tweet up with another one. I picture the “Donald” sitting in a huge room firing off these tweets all alone and angry. I know that in his mind he probably thinks that he’s got a legion of followers that support his views, but in all probability most of his followers are probably all like me, and just want to see what he’s going to say next.
.@HBO should fire @BillMaher and bring back @DennisDMZ– someone that is actually funny.

.@ESPN’s apology(Brent Musburger) was a disgrace to broadcasting— stop being so politically correct!

So, what lesson did “the Donald” teach me from his tweets? It’s simple, over the past year or two I have broken one of my cardinal rules when it comes to postin and sharing my views on Politics. Honestly, I never used to do this but lately I’ve been finding myself doing this on a daily basis (and I know better). After seeing how stupid Donald Trump has looked this past week I’ve made a promise to myself (and to those of you that follow me) that I’m not going to tweet about politics anymore. This promise is going to be hard to do and I promise you I’m going to need all of the accountability partners that I can get so don’t be afraid to step up and tell me to shut up if you see me doing it.
Furthermore, before I share anything in the future, whether it be on Facebook, Twitter, or here on this blog, I’m going to ask myself a few questions. The first question is going to be if what I’m sharing is “adding to the conversation” in a helpful manner or is it “one-sided opinion” (belonging only to me) or is it something that is going to take into account, and respect other peoples views. I’m also hoping that I can share more things that are uplifting and inspiring moving forward, I also plan on engaging others with different opinions less, a lot less (this is the part where I learn to keep my mouth shut).
Again, I’m going to need all of the accountability partners moving forward that I can get my hands on so please feel free to tell me to keep my mouth shut when you see me heading down one of the paths I outlined above. I promise I will appreciate you more than you know. Old habits are hard to break!!
