The other day I blogged about the varieties I had selected for my raised bed gardens this season. This past week I went ahead and started some of my tomatoes and celery indoors. I have a really cool setup that I put together a few years back that’s essentially a rolling rack w/ LED grow lights, heating pads, and a timer that allows me to select the amount of light the seedlings get. I also graduated to some really cool new seed trays this season, found them on burpee.com (see photos below). They have a silicon bottom to the seed cup that will allow for easy transplanting and very little root disruption when it’s time to transplant outside. In less than 10 days I’m already starting to see some of my tomato seeds sprout. I will probably start seeing celery in the next week or so also. I’m probably going to seed my cucumbers this weekend. I know that a lot of people find it easier to just go buy their vegetable starts at the local nursery but there’s something really cool about starting everything from seed for me, plus it’s a family activity that we all enjoy.
