New Responsive Child Theme for Genesis Framework: The Cotton Club

February 12, 2013 by Cotton Rohrscheib Leave a Comment

Typically I like to do a redesign of this blog each year, and I’ve known in my head exactly what I wanted to do with this iteration for quite some time, unfortunately, I’ve been pretty busy and haven’t had the spare time to dedicate to this project. Recently, I forced myself to sit down and code out this new design, The Cotton Club v3.0.

I’ve known for a long time that this version was going to be a responsive design, because that just makes sense nowadays w/ the majority of us using our mobile devices and tablets to surf the web. I have also known that this version was going to utilize Google Webfonts in some capacity because I’ve really enjoyed working with them on a few client projects in the past. Aside from the layout and the typography, I had no real direction creatively in mind so I spent the vast part of the time allocated to this project in photoshop and illustrator mocking up some designs.

Responsive design is an approach to web page creation that makes use of flexible layouts, flexible images and cascading style sheet media queries.  The goal of responsive design is to build web pages that detect the visitor’s screen size and orientation and change the layout accordingly.

I’m pretty content with how this project turned out, granted it’s very simplistic in design but I think in the back of my mind that’s sort of what I was looking for in this version. Since this redesign utilizes the widely popular Genesis Framework and is responsive, I figured I would make this current theme available for download if anyone wants to use it as a basis for their next web project, or to wrap their head around responsive design. You can purchase this entire child theme for $1 in the marketplace, click here…

Below are some screenshots from my iMac, iPad, and iPhone…
