I am doing more and more podcasts these days on my Microsoft Zune these days. I have put together a list of my favorite PHP Podcasts for anyone that might be interested in picking up PHP or just going back and getting a refresher course on the basics. There are also a ton of other resources online that feature web development, seo, and hosting related topics but for now I am just focusing on the shows dedicated to PHP. I will likely post some more recommendations later on.
Also, there is a website dedicated to PHP Podcasts, http://www.phppodcasts.com/, you might want to add it to your favorites. They seem to update pretty frequently with fresh content.
- KILLERPHP.COM – Dedicated to teaching web designers PHP. This site has a lot of good information, you can pick up a lot of basic information in these podcasts. The only issue I have with this site is that for some reason their feed doesn’t “subscribe” on my device and I Have to add the podcasts manually. (Check out the PHP beginners videos.)
- Lullabot Podcasts – This site deals mostly with the Drupal Branch of PHP Development but they often times will discuss other open source applications
- Official phpBB Podcast – This is the official PHPBB Podcast. Typically the shows are geared toward the Mod Development Community but occasionally they will also touch on other open source applications.
- PHP Abstract – advancing the art of PHP. Best practices, samples, articles, news, and community for PHP 4, PHP 5, and beyond. This Podcast is sponsored by Zend Technologies so there is a lot of emphasis on Zend Products, etc. but they also do a good job of covering techniques such as web scraping, etc.
- php|architect’s Pro PHP Podcast – Welcome to php|architect’s Pro PHP Podcast, your source for interviews and news from the PHP world. This show also covers a lot of great information but unfortunately their feed doesn’t work well with portable device software.
- The Show for CakePHP – Technical interviews and discussions about the web development framework CakePHP. CakePHP is similar to MODx in a lot of ways, it’s just another framework arm of PHP.
- The WordPress Podcast – The #1 Podcast for WordPress News and Information. This is a great Podcast that is packed with a lot of information regarding WordPress, Security, Mods, Plugins, etc.
- WebDevRadio Podcast home – web development discussion – Podcast series on all topics relating to web development. This Podcast is one of my favorites, I typically start my day w/ this one and then play on through the rest later.
- ZendCon_Sessions – advancing the art of PHP. Best practices, samples, articles, news, and community for PHP 4, PHP 5, and beyond. (I don’t subscribe to this Podcast because I do not use Zend’s IDE but have it listed because I have been considering giving Eclipse with PHPIDE a second look.
