Disqus + Facebook Connect

January 19, 2009 by Cotton Rohrscheib 14 Comments

I am a little late to the punch on this one, I just recently started investigating commenting platforms so I apologize for failing to break this news story back in December when it was announced.  Disqus, a popular commenting platform that competes head to head with IntenseDebate now features Facebook Connect as another option on their commenting system.

I have visited a few blogs recently that are using Disqus and I have to admit that it is all rolled up very nicely into the Disqus comment panel, and the Facebook Connect process, if implemented correctly with API key, works extremely well.

I look for IntenseDebate to soon offer Facebook Connect with their solution, but haven’t seen a formal announcement about it yet, just a whole lot of chatter on their business page inside of Facebook.

If you are looking for a quick and easy way to implement Facebook Connect on your blog or website, and have a Facebook API Key, you should take a look at Disqus.

Disqus is the top commenting platform in my opinion. Not only is Facebook Connect integration nice but allowing users to also use their Twitter accounts to leave comments is awesome.

I think it's also just as important to allow for Twitter users to authenticate and post as well. I get just as many Twitter connected users as I do Facebook these days. I think that that will just continue as time goes on.

Disqus comments are already among the most portable, enabling syndication through RSS, and into life-streaming applications of all sorts.

Discus Forum will compliment its commenting system. This is a popular platform for users to air their views and thoughts online and interact with the other forum users.

Problem solved for Disqus? Maybe. The service still has lots of advantages over simply integrating Facebook Connect to blog, like giving users their own profile to keep track of their comments, easy installation including a WordPress plugin, video integration with Seesmic, and support for trackbacks. And, turning on Facebook Connect will apparently be as easy as checking a box and entering your Facebook API key in your Disqus account settings.
