Pleth has experienced extraordinary growth since my partners and I started the company.
However, this was one board appointment that I accepted instantly for a couple of reasons. For one, the Conway Chamber of Commerce has always been an advocate for not only my business, but technology in general. You might remember several months back where I did a blog post discussing how the Conway Chamber really lent us a helping hand in putting together Barcamp Conway and how the Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce was absent during Barcamp Jonesboro. They have just always been very receptive to the needs of our tech community and go that extra mile to make sure startups are successful here. Also, since becoming a member of the Conway Chamber I have had the privilege of building relationships via Twitter and Facebook w/ most of their staff members and I must say, they are just good people.
I went to my first orientation meeting yesterday and learned a lot of interesting things about the Chamber, two tidbits that were most interesting to me was that the chamber was started initially in 1891, that makes this the third century that they have been in operation. Also, the chamber of commerce at one time operated the Toadsuck Ferry because they felt it was important for potential visitors to the city to have a way to get here to spend their money instead of going to other neighboring cities like Morrilton. I never knew that…
I also learned the true meaning of toadsuck, but I will leave that for another blog post… maybe.
