Cotton Rohrscheib

I've been an entrepreneur my entire life and have been blessed to have been associated with hundreds of startups and projects throughout my career. A few years ago I started offloading many of my business interests to spend more time w/ my family and retool my focus toward the agricultural industry, ultimately I landed at Farmers Business Network, Inc. w/ a great team of people w/ shared mission / vision and the rest is history! I still operate my personal website & blog occasionally on topics of interest to me including; parenting, agriculture, technology, and whatever else comes my direction! My blog, cotton.buzz, is the product of over 20yrs worth of content, photos, podcasts, videos, etc., and all of the content I produce is mine personally, and only represent my views and/or opinions on topics and do not represent any of the businesses or associations I'm affiliated with.

Varying Levels of User Access in PHP/MySQL

October 22, 2007 by Cotton Rohrscheib 1 Comment

Creating varying levels of access for users of a site is something that I wrestled with for a while trying to get my mind around when I first sat down to learn PHP inside and out.  Fortunately in PHPR (phprunner) there is a section full of tutorials that demonstrate how to setup user access to […]

Project: Classmate Website (beta)

October 22, 2007 by Cotton Rohrscheib 1 Comment

I am currently working on a project for my Mom’s classmate website.  I am building the project using PHPR (phprunner) and it is written in PHP with a MySQL database on the backend.  Her current website features an out of date content management solution that is hard for her to get around in, and it […]

Add an RSS Feed to Microsoft Outlook

October 22, 2007 by Cotton Rohrscheib 3 Comments

I upgraded to Office 2007 Ultimate a while back and I really like some of the new features it has packaged in.  Although I will be the first to admit that it has taken me longer to get familiar with everything than I would have liked.  One of the cool features that I am pretty […]

CodeIgniter PHP Framework

October 22, 2007 by Cotton Rohrscheib Leave a Comment

I ran across CodeIgniter over the weekend and tagged it so that I could come back in this morning and do a little more research on it because it looked pretty interesting. Indeed it’s pretty interesting so I thought that I would post a blog entry about it and see if anyone else had any […]

YouTube – Human Slingshot

October 20, 2007 by Cotton Rohrscheib Leave a Comment

Ryan Long and I were just looking at some Crazy Stuff on YouTube and ran across this video, I couldn’t resist adding it to my blog.  The things that folks will do for fun never ceases to amaze me!  This kid gets slung through the air at no tellings how fast several times!  Priceless!  I […]

Virtual Private Server Solutions…

October 20, 2007 by Cotton Rohrscheib 1 Comment

With all of the talk of Virtualization in Industry Publications and Conferences I felt like it was time to blog about this little known (or at least unknown to a lot of clients we interact with) technology.  Earlier last quarter we (www.pleth.com) started positioning ourselves for this trend and I have to admit, at first […]

PHPR Calendar Template

October 20, 2007 by Cotton Rohrscheib Leave a Comment

Xline calls these add-ins “templates” but I think that the word template doesn’t really do it justice, this in my opinion is more of a “framework” for lack of a better word, because it is so expandable as far as how it can be added to an application.  The benefit of adding the calendar framework […]

Usability for Mobile Devices

October 20, 2007 by Cotton Rohrscheib 8 Comments

More and more mobile phones users are browsing and searching the Internet on their handsets. The UK, for example, has neared saturation for mobile phones and many handset browsers can now handle sites designed for viewing on computers. Indeed 20% of UK mobile phone users now use the Internet on their mobile devices (source: www.pleth.com, […]

Using CSS on Forms

October 20, 2007 by Cotton Rohrscheib 1 Comment

I am working on a search box function for a clients membership database in php and was investigating how to style it using CSS and ran across a pretty good handful of resources, a few of which use the “legend” feature to overlay a “tab” or “legend” of sorts over the box.  The achieved affect is very cool and […]

Findings From the Web Design Survey

October 19, 2007 by Cotton Rohrscheib 1 Comment

My partner sent me a Link to A List Apart: Articles: Findings From the Web Design Survey the other day and I just took a few minutes to look over the 82 page document.  I thought that the survey was full of interesting data, I personally took the survey a while back and can remember […]
