Arkansas Football Coach Search Drags On

December 5, 2007 by Cotton Rohrscheib Leave a Comment

In case you haven’t heard already, we (University of Arkansas) have been turned down by another Division One Head Coach for our Head Football Coach Position.  Here’s verification from The Associated Press: Arkansas Football Coach Search Drags On.  Here’s an excerpt:

Wake Forest’s Jim Grobe was the latest to turn down the Razorbacks after he appeared to be headed to Fayetteville. The Razorback Foundation, a private fundraising arm for the University of Arkansas, had actually approved a salary supplement for the Wake Forest coach, but Grobe was still with the Demon Deacons on Thursday.

I have been careful all year not to post anything negative about Houston Nutt’s coaching ability, and thankfully he’s gone now (..to Ole Miss by the way) but the “drama” he caused has left behind such a spirit of negativity (..myself affected as well) that I am afraid it’s going to be hard for us to get a quality coach.  At first I had high hopes we would end up getting Tommy Tuberville from Auburn, he was in Arkansas hunting with some of our friends down in Helena when everything all came down, but it appears he’s back at Auburn now w/ a nice pay raise and concessions he was holding out for.  “Your welcome Tommy!”

I have also been holding out a little bit of hope we would get Bobby Petrino from the NFL to consider the job, and it was reported on local radio yesterday that he was interested in the job, hopefully our new athletic director Jeff Long can get it together and get to Atlanta to offer Petrino the job!  If not, Reggie Herring is the obvious choice although I am afraid the he may not want the position after being put through all of the drama as of late, in my mind I know that Reggie Herring would be the man for the job!

What about Gus Malzahn?  I am all for Gus Malzahn returning to Arkansas.  My father and law and I went to LR to watch Gus’s Springdale High School team play against my ex-high school coach’s West Memphis Blue Devils for the 2006 State 4A Championship and I have to say that I have never seen better coaching on the high school level before.  Gus can make it in Division 1 Football, he has proven that this year at Tulsa.  My point in all of this rambling: AD LONG, PLEASE GET US A COACH ASAP!!!!
