I was just in the process of loading a Twitter status script on my partner Stephen’s blog and Twitter started freaking out and I eventually got the Fail Whale. Twitter has been running so smoothly lately that I had forgotten what the Whale looked like! A few of us early-adopters to Twitter became all too familiar w/ the graphic while Twitter was going through their growing pains. Here’s the note I found on the Twitter status blog describing the downtime:
Users are noticing a few over-capacity messages (whale image) while clicking around the web site. We’re in the middle of a large optimization which has uncovered some bugs. We’re working to address them now and thank you for your patience.
