I had the privilege of having some inside knowledge of this announcement before it was shared with the public this evening at the Conway Chamber of Commerce‘s Annual Meeting. I had only heard a description of the video (above) that was used to announce the launch of Conway Corporation‘s new 1 gigabyte internet service for the new “data district” in downtown Conway. I was blown away when I had the opportunity to actually see the video in person. I can’t brag on our city and chamber of commerce enough, they are constantly moving our community forward and setting an example of how hard work yields results. They are simply the best I’ve ever seen!
One of the coolest things about this video for me personally was that they used Rock-Pond Solutions, my friend Pete Tanguay’s business, as the first stop on the tour. I made mention on Facebook earlier that I remember carrying Pete up to that very building for the first time for a meeting. It wasn’t long after that before Pete had moved his company into a section of the building before eventually buying the entire property because “the Pond” kept growing.
What does 1 gigabyte internet mean? It means that Conway, Arkansas now finds itself on a pedestal with just a handful of other cities around the nation that can provide this sort of service. This service alone is enough to attract tech companies to Conway without even taking into consideration the many other positive attributes we have here in Central Arkansas.
In addition to the “data district” announcement the developer for the new Central Landing retail destination updated everyone on the progress of that enormous project. The crowd on hand this evening was probably as big as I’ve seen in previous years, maybe even more. There was also a very comical video featuring some local dignitaries from within our community that sent the kindest, gentlest, message of “we are a lot better than your city” that I’ve ever seen. Obviously this was done with a lot of class.
In one of the review videos from this past year they played a highlight of MC Hammer from his visit during Toad Suck Daze and the LaunchPad Startup Competition that Pleth & .buzz sponsored. There were several other announcements made this evening and everyone left in very high spirits… but, I happen to know that there are a few huge announcements coming in the next few days and weeks that will blow everyone’s minds.
