In the event that we haven’t met, I wanted to take a few minutes to introduce myself and share some of my background information. Before I get started I should probably go ahead and let you know that I have full-blown ADHD, seriously, was diagnosed in my early 20’s. It’s not a big deal, in fact it’s sort of an advantage when managed correctly, but I always like to get that disclaimer out of the way in advance just in case things get weird down the road…

I was born and raised in the Mississippi Delta in a small agricultural community located in Eastern Arkansas. In case you are wondering… yes, I have gone by “Cotton” my entire life. Interestingly enough, there are a couple of theories as to how I was given the name. I’ve been told that the doctor that delivered me handed me to my dad and called me a “cotton top”, but I could just as easily earned the name because I had white hair throughout my childhood or because I’m a third generation farmer, and at the time I was born Cotton was king, and we grew a lot of it, even owned a cotton gin at one point. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter, everyone calls me Cotton so I hope you’ll do the same.

I was blessed w/ an awesome family, and while I’m an only child, I literally have hundreds of cousins running around because my mom was the baby of 12 children and my dad also came from a large family.

I’ve had an entrepreneurial spirit for as long as I can remember, probably before I even knew what it meant to be an entrepreneur, and while I’ve always enjoyed farming –I knew pretty early on that my God given talents would be put to better use in an industry that would allow me to have a creative outlet with an emphasis on technology. I can remember reading an article about this thing called the “world wide web” and having my mind completely blown…

One of my first tech ventures was opening a computer OEM (original equipment manufacturing) networking business. While my vision was solid I was about 10 years too early to enjoy very much success, and being right out of high school I also lacked a lot of personal maturity –but I sure did learn a lot, and probably the best thing about this venture was that it allowed me to become one of the earliest providers of dialup internet service in the mid-south.

While technology has played a role in just about every business venture I’ve ever had, my strongest attribute has always been my creativity. Eventually I would leave the networking and system building behind and partner with a web-hosting company to provide web design and development services to their clientele. I had the opportunity to build a portfolio of clients from around the world that included Fortune 500 companies, celebrities, and countless small businesses. I enjoyed a very successful, twenty-five year long career as the owner and co-founder of an award-winning, interactive marketing agency that serviced hundreds of clients with multiple offices and employees across the south as well as a satellite office of programmers in Lima, Peru.

While concurrently operating my advertising agency, I launched several other startups in a variety of industries, anywhere I thought there was opportunity –and it didn’t matter if I had limited knowledge of the industry, I always had a knack for connecting w/ people that were smarter than me!

At the end of the day, my inability to stop researching opportunities and reject ideas without at least doing some due diligence has led to an equal number of successes as well as failures over the years –but after twenty-five years in the creative industry combined with a series of life-changing events that included the loss of my daughter, my wife’s kidney failure and her eventual transplant, along the way I was also diagnosed with diabetes and had to have multiple heart procedures… at the end of the day I found myself completely burned out…

Ultimately, God listens to our prayers and answers way beyond our expectations. One day someone read a post on this website about our journey and reached out to us with an opportunity that would change our lives forever, the adoption of our son!

It was just a matter of time that I made the decision to walk away from some businesses and relationships that I had built from the ground up to refocus my priorities and learn how to be a dad to this amazing kiddo! I’m still working on the second part, but I eventually liquidated the vast majority of my business interests and made the decision to pursue other opportunities. After exploring a handful of opportunities I eventually connected with a group of talented entrepreneurs getting ready to do some awesome things in the agricultural industry… wouldn’t you know it, everything always comes full-circle… After a few months of discussions I eventually joined Farmers Business Network and am having a blast every since.

>>>>>>> hobbies include; storm chasing, history,

While I still have other business interests they all pretty much run themselves so my sole focus these days is my role as a field executive / shareholder w/ Farmers Business Network… I’ve never been more focused in my entire life, and by the way, life is always good! I hope you enjoy my blog and will leave me a comment from time to time to let me know you were here!
